Autoimmune Protocol – AIP

The Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) is a complementary approach to chronic disease management which focuses on immune regulation, gut health, hormone regulation and tissue healing while removing inflammatory stimuli from both diet and lifestyle.

Personalised coaching, education, and motivation to reduce symptoms of autoimmune disease.

Autoimmune conditions arise when, instead of attacking pathogens such as bacteria and viruses, the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks healthy organs and tissues. The type of cells attacked determines the disease, for example in Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, the tissues of the thyroid gland are attacked. There are more than eighty confirmed autoimmune diseases and many more diseases are suspected of being autoimmune in their origin.

Some of the more common autoimmune diseases include Coeliac Disease, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Graves’ Disease, Hashimoto Thyroiditis, Multiple Sclerosis, and Type 1 Diabetes. Other autoimmune conditions include Inflammatory Bowel Disease (such as Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease), Psoriasis and Alopecia Areata, while diseases such as Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue are suspected to be autoimmune conditions.

Genetic predisposition accounts for about one third of the risk of developing an autoimmune condition, with the other two thirds come from the environment – that is, your diet and lifestyle. This means that autoimmune disease is directly linked to our food choices and how we decide to live our life. It also means that we can manage autoimmune disease by changing how we eat and making more informed choices about sleep, activity and stress.

The Autoimmune Protocol (AIP) is a complementary approach to chronic disease management which focuses on immune regulation, gut health, hormone regulation and tissue healing while removing inflammatory stimuli from both diet and lifestyle. The AIP diet provides balanced and complete nutrition by prescribing nutrient dense foods while avoiding processed and refined foods. The AIP lifestyle encourages sufficient sleep, stress management and activity as these are important immune modulators.
